Women’s FA Cup Final Sets Competition Attendance Record

  • Chelsea’s 3-2 victory over Manchester City drew 49,094 fans to Wembley Stadium.
  • The Blues secured a double in consecutive seasons for the first time.

While Chelsea made history on the field in Sunday’s Women’s FA Cup Final, so did the fans in attendance.

Chelsea’s 3-2 victory over Manchester City drew a crowd of 49,094 to Wembley Stadium — the biggest in the competition’s history, passing the previous record of 45,423 set in 2018, per Sports Pro Media.

Having already locked up the season’s FA Women’s Super League title, Chelsea’s win secured a double for a second consecutive year — the first time that has happened in the club’s history.

Two of the Blues’ goals — including the game-winner — came Sam Kerr.

The Australian international signed an extension with the club last November that will keep her in London until 2024. She reportedly makes over $400,000 per season.

While the attendance numbers are impressive, the English women’s game still has room for growth: In April, Barcelona set a world record for women’s soccer attendance with 91,553 for a Champions League match.
