The 25 Highest-Paid NHL Goaltenders

  • The highest-paid NHL goaltender ranks as the thirteenth top earner among all NHL players.
  • Six of the top ten highest-paid goaltenders play in the Eastern Conference.
Jean-Yves Ahern-USA TODAY Sports

Despite their undisputed value on the ice, NHL goaltenders earn a limited piece of the economic pie. The highest-paid goaltender is the 13th highest-paid player overall in the NHL.

The Canadiens’ Carey Price is the highest-paid goaltender earning $10.5 million annually. Price signed an eight-year, $84 million contract extension in 2017 and is set to be a free agent again in 2026.

The Panthers’ Sergei Bobrovsky and Lightning’s Andrei Vasilevskiy hold the second and third positions making $10 million and $9.5 million, respectively.

Fourth on the list is the Jets’ Connor Hellebuyck at $8.5 million.

In 2023, Hellebuyck signed a seven-year, $59.5 million contract extension to remain in Winnipeg. Rounding out the top five is Islanders stopper Ilya Sorokin, along with newly-extended Bruins goalie Jeremy Swayman. Sorokin makes $8.25 million annually after signing an eight-year, $66 million contract extension.

The market for goaltenders will shift soon with more salary cap increases expected for the booming NHL. Igo Shesterkin’s deal with the Rangers for $11.5 million AAV will catapult him to the top of the list in 2025-2026 as the highest-paid NHL goaltender when it kicks in.
