The National Women’s Soccer League has locked in the biggest stage possible for its championship — the game’s first-ever primetime slot — thanks to one of its corporate partners.

On Tuesday, the NWSL announced that its 2022 championship game will be played on Oct. 29 at 8 p.m. ET from Audi Field in Washington, D.C., and will be broadcast on CBS with live streaming on Paramount+. It was originally scheduled to be played at noon ET.

The change was spurred by one of NWSL’s corporate partners, Ally Financial.

“Like sports fans across the country, we knew it was important to create a pathway to primetime for this year’s NWSL championship game,” said Andrea Brimmer, Ally’s chief marketing and public relations officer. “We increased our media investment with CBS to help make it happen, delivering the first action in our promise to watch the game, change the game.”

The official name of the match is the 2022 Ally Financial NWSL Championship, presented by Budweiser.

The women’s soccer league is riding a wave of momentum in its 10th season: In May, it reported that its opening weekend was the most well-attended in league history.
