Fan-Favorite NHL Analyst Paul Bissonnette Gets TNT Extension

The big-personality hockey analyst and Barstool podcaster is getting a multiyear deal to continue on for TNT’s NHL coverage.

Paul Bissonnette notched in only seven goals in his 202 career NHL games—while piling up 340 penalty minutes—but he has scored a new contract extension with TNT Sports.

The network is poised to announce a multi-year deal with Bissonnette to continue as a hockey analyst for its NHL coverage, Front Office Sports has learned. He’s served as an analyst for TNT since the network took over a big chunk of the league’s live U.S. game rights in 2021.

Bissonnette is part of a chemistry-filled NHL on TNT crew, which also includes Wayne Gretzky, Henrik Lundqvist, Anson Carter, and host Liam McHugh. The network’s irreverent pregame show, NHL on TNT Face Off, has become one of the best parts of its hockey coverage. It’s fair to say that the outspoken, tough-as-nails ex-Coyotes enforcer, nicknamed “BizNasty,” has become the Charles Barkley of hockey.

As part of his new TNT deal, Bissonnette will also work live-game broadcasts for the first time. He’ll join game commentators Brendan Burke and Jody Shelley for Wednesday’s telecast of Flyers-Sabres from Buffalo. Bissonnette will offer his commentary from a spot between the team benches.

Since retiring from the NHL in 2017, Bissonnette has morphed into a successful broadcaster and podcaster. Joining Barstool Sports’ Spittin’ Chiclets, he and costars Ryan Whitney and Keith Yandle have built the show into the country’s most popular hockey podcast.

For its first episode on its new home, Netflix, the podcast scored Tom Brady as a guest. On the podcast, Brady told Bissonnette about the astronomical work ethic that transformed him from a sixth-round draft pack to seven-time Super Bowl winner. “At 25 I was good, at 35 I was great, at 45 I was a master of the sport,” Brady said.

Bissonnette is also famous for sparring with live with guests on NHL on TNT, including Bruins forward Brad Marchand. In 2024, a mocking BizNasty asked Marchand if he’d gotten a “Turkish hair transplant” during the offseason. Marchand fired back with an all-time zinger: “I just try to look like those guys that beat the wheels off you the other night,” he joked. He was referring to Bissonnette’s scrap with a bunch of drunk golfers with roots in the Irish Travellers community—at one point, he was fighting six men in a running brawl that kicked off in a Scottsdale restaurant, then continued in the parking lot. Four suspects were indicted in 2025.

BizNasty could only wave his finger in admiration at Marchand, while TNT’s cast roared with laughter.
