Oklahoma Selling Fans Tickets to Press Conferences

The cost for two fans to sit in on the conference against Michigan on Sept. 6 is almost $700.

Oklahoma Sooners defensive back Woodi Washington (5) runs after a reception during the Armed Forces Bowl football game between the University of Oklahoma Sooners (OU) and the Navy Midshipmen at Amon G. Carter Stadium in Fort Worth, Texas, Friday, Dec. 27, 2024.

Oklahoma is offering fans a new gameday experience to help with revenue sharing: a seat in the postgame press conference.

The athletic department is offering fans the opportunity as part of “Sooner Magic Memories,” which offers a selection of gameday activities to increase access for fans. In addition to sitting in on coach Brent Venables’ press conference, fans can also purchase pregame photos on the 50-yard line, deliver a gameball, or secure a spot in the high-five tunnel, among other options.

Oklahoma is one of the many athletic departments looking for additional income streams to help pay for revenue-sharing. The House v. NCAA settlement—which was approved in June—allows schools to distribute about $20.5 million to athletes in the first year.

Prices for postgame press conferences vary based on the opponent. The cost for two fans to sit in on the conference against Michigan on Sept. 6 is almost $700. But the price drops to about $580 two weeks later for the Sooners’ conference opener against Auburn.

The press conference price for the season opener against Illinois State on Aug. 30 is about $462 and it’s sold out.

Oklahoma doesn’t specify if fans can ask questions in the press conference, but “Sooner Magic Memories” advertises that they can “hear OU coaches and players address reporters moments after the final whistle” and “watch the story take shape through the questions.”

An OU spokesperson did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Front Office Sports

The Sooners play seven home games during the 2025 season but currently only have opportunities for the first three games available for purchase.

While unique to college football, the Sooners aren’t the first enterprise to sell tickets to their press conferences. WWE offered fans a seat at their press conferences as part of their on-location VIP packages. But that offer recently stopped when WWE announced it was ending post-show press conferences
