Sports ownership continues to consolidate in the nation’s capital.
On Tuesday, Monumental Sports & Entertainment and Comcast Corporation announced that the former would acquire NBCUniversal’s 67% stake in NBC Sports Washington — giving MSE full control of the regional sports network.
MSE had originally acquired 33% of the RSN in 2016.
The deal will be finalized after regulatory approval and other customary conditions. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
The full acquisition keeps it all in the family for Ted Leonsis’ MSE, which owns a variety of teams in the Washington, D.C., area.

Originally launched as Home Team Sports in April 1984, NBC Sports Washington has televised games for the Wizards and Capitals since the network’s inception. It also shows games for the Mystics, MLS’ D.C. United, and a variety of area colleges.
As part of the deal, NBCUniversal will continue to assist with operation of the network for up to 18 months after the transaction is complete.
There could be another team appearing on the network in the future: Leonsis was reportedly one of the parties interested in purchasing the Washington Nationals now that they are up for sale.
