The name, image, and likeness era has finally arrived in the NCAA. As of July 1, college athletes can profit off everything from social media endorsement deals to sports clinics.

But the road to NIL has been messy, to say the least. And it’s currently being governed by a patchwork of state laws and a “temporary” NCAA waiver.

What can we learn from the first week of NIL? What kinds of deals have athletes already signed? What legal troubles have arisen?
