One of basketball’s most celebrated modern figures will be getting the “30 for 30” treatment.

ESPN has announced it is beginning production on a documentary about Basketball Hall of Famer Bill Walton as part of its “30 for 30” series.

The film will be directed by filmmaker Steve James — who notably directed the critically acclaimed documentary “Hoop Dreams” and the “30 for 30” film “No Crossover: The Trial of Allen Iverson.”

Walton’s documentary will follow his time as a high school phenom in San Diego, his college days with UCLA under legendary head coach John Wooden, his outstanding NBA career, and his current career as one of basketball’s favorite broadcasters.

The doc will also delve into Walton’s intense struggles with injuries, his love of the Grateful Dead, and his political activism.

Interviews for the film include Larry Bird, Julius Erving, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Brent Musberger, and Luke Walton.

A release date and other details of the production will be released at a later time.
