Downtime Turned Go-Time

By: Chase McCaskill, @itsmechase

I graduated from Texas A&M in May of 2015 with a degree in Finance and minor in sports management. Although my internships were all sports centered, I had a full-time job lined up at global consulting firm, Protiviti. In the meantime between graduation and my job beginning, I stumbled over Front Office Sports on Twitter. With my full-time job not beginning for two months, I began reading the daily FOS interviews. Through consistent interaction via Twitter, the FOS team reached out and offered me a contributor position. This provided me an excellent opportunity to develop my writing skills, expand my network, and continually hear motivating stories.

For the past year, I’ve worn a few different hats. As mentioned, I initially started as an interview contributor, contributing bi-weekly articles based on interviews with high-profile sports business individuals. For the past month or so, I’ve served as the site’s College Partnerships Coordinator. Because our resource has a heavy student influence, it is crucial we maintain strong relationships with schools around the country so they are aware of Front Office Sports and share our content with their students!

I love what I’m doing at FOS because we can easily see our hard work for the site paying off. As with any investment, you like to see the benefit it generates. If I invest a few hours of my Saturday, I’m almost always able to see the return on that investment. It’s seeing this return that keeps you going. In addition, Front Office Sports has been an incredible opportunity to develop skills that I may not specifically be developing at my full-time job. Not only am I developing skills through consulting, but also skills through writing and partnerships! The opportunity to work with Front Office Sports has turned me into a better-rounded professional.

FOS has allowed me to take part in something I whole-heartedly believe in. We have grown 340% in the last year, which is amazing! Being able to work hard and see that hard work come to fruition has truly encouraged me to apply that same drive in my full-time job and other areas of my life. Front Office Sports has been quite the experience and I can’t wait to see what this next year has in store for us!
