College football’s biggest game of the season thus far is now the most-viewed — and it outdrew a major sports championship on the same day.
On Saturday, Georgia’s 27-13 win over Tennessee averaged 13.1 million viewers — making it the most-watched college football game of the season across any network and most-watched Tennessee-Georgia game on record (since 1997).
It also represented a 122% increase from the same matchup between the Volunteers and Bulldogs last season.
Perhaps most impressively, the contest outperformed the Astros’ World Series-clinching Game 6 win, which drew just 12.6 million average viewers.
In fact, the Tennessee-Georgia game outdrew every game of the Fall Classic, which averaged 11.8 million viewers for the series.
Tennessee’s surprise success has now led to them having the two most-watched games of the season: The Vols’ thrilling 52-49 upset over Alabama was the previous title holder.
Both games were presented by CBS Sports — which has been experiencing huge success as a result of the SEC.
The network has produced the most-watched game of the week for six of the last eight weeks, and its streamer, Paramount+, delivered its most-streamed college football game ever with Tennessee-Georgia by viewing households, streaming minutes, and average minute audience.
