Former Kansas City Chiefs assistant coach Britt Reid, the son of the team’s head coach Andy Reid, pleaded guilty to a felony DWI charge that stemmed from a February 2021 accident that left a child with a life-altering traumatic brain injury.

Britt Reid entered the plea in a Jackson County, Missouri, courtroom on Monday as part of an agreement with prosecutors that calls for no more than four years in prison, according to news reports.

“I really regret what I did,” Reid said in court per KMBC-TV. “I made a huge mistake.“

Reid’s SUV crashed into two vehicles parked off to the side of a highway onramp near the Chiefs’ practice facility. Five people were injured, four seriously, including a 5-year-old girl who was left in a coma.

After the accident, law enforcement found Reid’s blood alcohol to be 0.113. The legal limit is 0.08.

In November, the Chiefs reached a settlement with the family of Ariel Young to cover her ongoing medical expenses.

Young’s family blasted the deal prosecutors made with Reid.

“The five victims of this crime are outraged the prosecuting attorney is not seeking the maximum sentence allowable by law,” Tom Porto, the attorney for the victims, said in a statement.

Reid was suspended by the team immediately after the crash, which occurred days before the Chiefs lost to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Super Bowl LV. His contract was not renewed.
