FBI Arrests Ex-College Hoops Player in Multimillion-Dollar Fraud Case

Kerr Kriisa is the latest in a string of basketball players involved in federal investigations.

Kerr Kriisa—a former college basketball guard who played for Arizona, West Virginia, Kentucky, and Cincinnati between 2020 and 2026—was arrested by the FBI in connection with a multimillion-dollar fraud scheme, according to a report by Kentucky Sports Radio, which is affiliated with On3.

The scheme allegedly began during Kriisa’s 2023-24 season while playing at West Virginia, where KSR’s report said he will be extradited ahead of a court hearing scheduled for next week.

The Lexington Herald-Leader confirmed that the arrest occurred on Friday and that the Estonian native is currently being held at Kentucky’s Fayette County Detention Center.

Kriisa, who played at Arizona for three seasons, last played for Cincinnati during the 2025–26 season as a graduate student. He averaged 5.8 points and 3 assists across 19 games (which included 12 starts).

The 25-year-old was set to make his debut for La Familia, Kentucky’s team in The Basketball Tournament—an open-invitation, single-elimination tournament founded in 2014—later this month. La Familia acknowledged Kriisa’s arrest Saturday on X, noting that he would no longer be competing for the team.

Kriisa had also signed with the Estonian basketball team Tartu Ülikool Maks & Moorits for the 2026–27 season.

While additional details on the allegations against Kriisa were not available as of late Sunday afternoon, he is not the only athlete to come under federal investigation recently.

On June 29, former NBA players Malik Beasley and Ed Davis were indicted in the federal gambling probe that led to the arrests of Terry Rozier, Chauncey Billups, and Damon Jones, among others.

This field is for validation purposes and should be left unchanged.
