The reigning MLS champions may finally be settling down into a permanent home.

New York City mayor Eric Adams is expected to approve a new soccer-specific stadium for NYCFC near Citi Field in Queens, per the New York Post.

According to the report, the project would be privately funded and constructed on land leased by former Mets owners Sterling Equities and Related Companies.

If and when Adams signs off, the prospective field would still need to gain the approval of the city’s Uniform Land Use Review Procedure (ULURP) — which is reportedly not guaranteed.

But if all goes according to plan, the new stadium could be ready as early as 2025 — just in time to potentially host a World Cup training site in 2026.

Despite its on-field success, NYCFC has struggled to find a home of its own since playing its first season in 2015.

  • The club has primarily played its home games at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx.
  • However, it has often had to defer to the wishes of its de facto landlords, playing at least one “home game” each in Queens, Connecticut, New Jersey, and even Los Angeles over the years.

The Blues had previously proposed stadium projects in the Bronx, Queens, and on Long Island — but all were abandoned due to lack of support.

City Living

At a reported value of $655 million, NYCFC is the fifth-most valuable club in MLS. Los Angeles FC tops the list at $860 million.

Much of NYC’s value derives from being part of City Football Group — which most notably owns the English Premier League’s defending champions, Manchester City FC.

A new home in New York will only further increase NYCFC’s value.
