While the WNBA has been dealing with a new culture war this season, it seemed a 2025 problem had been addressed: fans throwing dildos on the court. That was until Thursday night.
During the third quarter of the Dream-Sparks game at Crypto.com Arena, a green dildo landed on the hardwood. The object was tossed in front of the Sparks bench as Los Angeles forward Jihyun Park was at the free-throw line.
At the scorer’s table, Dream star Angel Reese gestured to the stands: “Angel Reese is pointing out the perpetrator,” Amazon Prime announcer Mike Watts said.
An unidentified person from the Lakers bench threw a towel in an attempt to cover the object. Sparks center Cameron Brink then kicked the object before it was removed from the court by security.
A video by LoJo Media shows the perpetrator running out from the 100s section, pushing a security guard in the process.
A source familiar with the situation told Front Office Sports the individual that threw the dildo was apprehended by arena security and arrested. The individual received an indefinite ban from all WNBA, NBA, and other league-affiliated games and events.
The Sparks did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
On Friday, another incident occurred after at least three dildos were thrown on the court in Chicago during the third quarter of the Sky’s game against the Golden State Valkyries.
The three dildos were immediately removed from the court, but it’s unclear if the perpetrators were apprehended.
The WNBA and Sky did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
The two incidents come after multiple instances of sex toys being thrown on the court across the WNBA last season, including in Atlanta, Chicago, New York, Phoenix, and Los Angeles. A league spokesperson told FOS last year that it was “working closely with local and federal law enforcement to pursue all appropriate actions—including arrest and prosecution with felony charges where applicable—against anyone engaged in this conduct or otherwise involved in sponsoring this reckless and unacceptable behavior.”
Two people were arrested in 2025: 18-year-old Kaden Lopez in Phoenix, and 23-year-old Delbert Carver in Georgia. A cryptocurrency group told FOS they were behind many of the incidents, and that Lopez was one of them, but Carver was not.
