$50 million
That’s how much two defendants in a FIFA corruption case are forfeiting to avoid criminal conviction. In 2015, the U.S. Department of Justice charged Hugo and Mariano Jinkis, who ran an Argentina-based sports marketing firm, with wire fraud. The U.S. alleged the father and son defrauded FIFA, CONCACAF, and CONMEBOL as part of a scheme to bribe soccer officials to get television & marketing rights. It’s part of the same FIFA corruption investigation that led to the 2015 arrests of nine FIFA officials in a Swiss hotel.

Argentina has blocked the Jinkises’ extradition to the U.S. But in May they flew to New York to negotiate a plea deal, according to The New York Times. On Thursday, they appeared before a judge and agreed to forfeit $50 million in assets that are believed to have been frozen by the U.S.

“Looking back, super dumb ad concept.”
—Good Good Golf cofounder Garrett Clark apologizing for an ad that showed him shoving a woman to the ground as she tries to grab his new Callaway co-branded golf club. In the since-deleted ad, Clark stands over her and says, “Do not touch my new driver.”
The ad was posted last weekend and quickly attracted online criticism, prompting the brand—which began as a YouTube channel—to pull it from social media within hours and issue a short apology. That wasn’t enough to stem the controversy. On Wednesday, Front Office Sports reported that Dick’s Sporting Goods, Golf Galaxy, and other retailers were pulling Good Good merchandise from their stores. Golf Channel also announced it was delaying a new show with Good Good over sponsorship issues. On Wednesday evening, Clark issued a longer video apology, explaining the ad’s origins and his feelings about it. “Minutes after it got posted, I was cringing,” he said. “I thought it was the worst ad known to man.”
That explanation was still not good-good enough for Callaway, which earlier this week issued its own apology for its role in the ad. On Thursday, the mega golf brand, which has partnered with Good Good since 2023, said it was ending its partnership with the brand. Later that day, Good Good pulled out of a $6 million sponsorship deal with the PGA Tour to host the Good Good Championship in November.
